International Standard Manuscript Identifier (ISMI): pour un registre électronique des identifiants des livres manuscrits

Authors

The development of digital resources and online scientific research is creating new requirements for interoperability and common vocabularies. The manuscript book is directly concerned by this challenge, because of the heterogeneity of vocabulary systems and variations in the expression of the shelfmarks: not only has the same manuscript been designated in several different ways over the course of its history, as it has been moved around and the holdings reclassified, but it is still often designated differently today. These ambiguities make it difficult to aggregate information on the Internet. To overcome these issues, the ISMI Consortium, set up in November 2018, proposes to create a universal numeric or alphanumeric identifier for the manuscript object (and not for its digital reproduction or record in a catalogue) based on an international agreement. The vocabularies thus developed, which will initially target medieval manuscripts, will be based on Open Linked Data.
