The “Health and Safety File” (Fascicolo del Fabbricato) has been discussed for a long time in Italy: the subject has registered alternative, if not completely antithetical, points of view, proceeding between phases of heated debate and long periods of suspension. Recently, however, the experience of the SARSCoV-2 pandemic has led to a rethinking of the work practices of public and private parties and stimulated some fruitful reflections which, in the wake of certain measures adopted by the legislator, could revive this debate in relation to the issue of digitization of building files. The contribution tries to show how the two topics, so far treated independently, are actually closely connected; how there is a real convenience for the administrations in rationalizing the document management processes linked to building works and in producing, as a consequence, also such a management tool.
