Digital literature for children includes interactive elements that enhance the reading experience compared to traditional printed books, introducing new opportunities to promote active learning for children. This article explores some of the potentials and challenges intrinsic in applying digital humanities to children's literature, specifically focusing on the design of interactive digital books. It highlights the role of digital interactivity and its influence on text comprehension and vocabulary acquisition. Drawing on meta-analyses and other studies comparing learning outcomes between printed and digital books, the research examines the results of studies on various types of interactive digital books, such as e-books, illustrated book applications, and iBooks. It considers different variables including digital enhancements, the role of adult mediation, content type, and reading context. Through careful and research-based design, it emerges that digital books can provide an enriching and engaging reading experience for children, ensuring access to high-quality books that reflect the authentic experiences of communities.
