Cultural Heritage and Digital Accessibility: Challenges and Perspectives Beyond the Accessibility Act and the AI Act

This contribution addresses selected issues related to digital accessibility for all in the field of cultural heritage, in light of recent European regulatory developments, with particular reference to the European Accessibility Act and the Artificial Intelligence Act. Digital accessibility and usability are examined from a holistic perspective, based on the assumption that they are not merely technical requirements, but fundamental elements in the creation of digital content, tools, and services for all users, not only for people with disabilities. Through the analysis of selected case studies, the role of Artificial Intelligence systems is highlighted, outlining their potential, risks, and limitations.
