L’attuazione in Italia del Progetto GoogleBooks

With the signing of the Cooperation Agreement between the MiBACT and Google Ireland Limited (9 March 2010) and the one between the Department for the digitization of the public administration of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the MiBACT (2 February 2012), it was given launch in Italy to the GoogleBooks project. It took place in four phases from December 2012 to December 2018 and saw the participation of eleven state libraries under the coordination of the Central National Library of Rome, leading to the digitization of approximately 630.800 volumes. The operations performed are detailed, the advantages obtained and an evaluation of the costs/benefits is carried out with reference to the digitalizations made at the Central National Library of Rome.
