In recent decades there has been growing interest in the analysis of provenance marks as a privileged source for the study and reconstruction of book collections, as well as reading practices and the circulation of manuscripts and printed books. There are therefore numerous census projects and descriptions of these signs of provenance carried out by various institutions, both nationally and internationally. The contribution aims to briefly recall the theoretical and methodological assumptions underlying these initiatives and to offer a summary but illustrative overview of some tools made available on the net in this area of research.
