Abstract

The paper illustrates the aims of the project L&L: Lives and Libraries: readers and libraries in contemporary Italy, designed to offer a contribution to the history of culture, libraries, librarianship and reading. The project has merged into a website managed with the MOVIO open source kit, and aims to survey and index evidence relating to the use of Italian public libraries in the contemporary age. The website surveys evidence taken from diaries, memoirs, correspondence, biographies and autobiographies, but also from interviews, journalistic articles or letters to newspapers, poems, novels and creative texts. The paper illustrates the website’s properties and provides a guide for the consultation of its sections.
