Abstract

Following the digitization of the Leopardian Collection held by the National Library of Naples, started a few years ago and finished now, in 2018 the University of Macerata promoted a similar project, aiming to process all the manuscripts that were not at Antonio Ranieri’s disposal when Leopardi died: now they are preserved in many institutions, in Italy and abroad. The activity is meant to reconstruct the passages of the autograph documents, highlighting the importance of creating both a unitary catalogue for all Leopardi’s manuscripts and a digital instrument, not only to localize these significant documents worldwide, but also to make their digital reproduction and metadata available. Biblioteca Digitale Leopardiana will be an electronic catalogue of the manuscripts, provided with images taken from the original documents, which will let everyone access the descriptions and check them, too. All the information, constantly updated and enhanced, will indeed push forward Leopardian studies and will be accessed, at first, through two official websites powered by ICCU: ManusOnLine and Internet Culturale. They allow users to download metadata in the XML as a guarantee of longterm preservation and interoperability with other systems.
